HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY

The staff of the House of Assembly provide the administrative machinery for the efficient conduct of the House of Assembly and its committees and certain joint committees and a range of services and facilities for Members in Parliament House.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the following position:

PARLIAMENTARY ASSISTANT (full-time, fixed term appointment for a period of 12 months, with the potential for extension or an ongoing position)

The successful applicant will be responsible to the Clerk-Assistant and Sergeant-at-Arms for a range of administrative duties including:-

  • - Providing general clerical and administrative support to the House of Assembly.
  • - Assisting in providing reception duties for visitors to Parliament House. 
  • - Conducting tours and assisting with visitors to Parliament. 
  • - Assisting in providing the messengerial service to the House of Assembly.

The position requires the occupant to possess good communication skills, demonstrated keyboard and information technology skills, and appropriate administrative experience.

This position in common with other general positions in the House of Assembly requires the occupant to have the ability to act with tact and discretion in a complex political environment.

The successful applicant will be appointed by the Speaker of the House of Assembly under the provisions of the Parliamentary Privilege Act 1898.

The annual salary is $60,753 - $65,780.  Other work conditions broadly relate to those applying to State Service employees.
