Parliament of Tasmania - Employment Opportunity

Parliamentary Reporting Service (Hansard)

Hansard produces a daily transcript of the proceedings of both Houses of Parliament and their committees using a digital audio recording system for reporting debates.  Appointments are casual and the amount of work available is dependent on the sittings of the House of Assembly and the Legislative Council.

The Parliament of Tasmania invites applications from suitably qualified people for the position of subeditor.  The functions of a subeditor are to check the typed copy against the sound and edit appropriately to ensure that it is accurate and readable.  A successful applicant must demonstrate:

  1. Proven editorial experience.
  2. Ability to work long hours under pressure and meet tight production deadlines.
  3. Exceptional command of the English language, involving a sound knowledge of grammar and spelling and an extensive vocabulary.
  4. Wide general knowledge and a keen interest in current affairs, particularly in the Tasmanian political environment.
  5. Strong keyboard skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word and audio digital technology or ability to acquire such skills and the ability to edit on screen.

Remuneration begins at $40.36 per hour.
