The Legislative Council of the Parliament of Tasmania is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified person to the permanent full-time position of Deputy Clerk.

Salary:   Senior Parliamentary Officer Band 3, Range:  $172,713 - $196,298 per annum plus employer’s contribution to superannuation and the provision of a vehicle.

Proposed commencement date:        Mid to late July 2017.

Broadly this position supports the Clerk in providing expert and authoritative advice and counsel to the President and Members of the Legislative Council and its Committees on parliamentary practice and procedure relating to Parliament’s role in making laws, scrutiny of the Executive Government, and debate and investigation of matters of public interest.  The Deputy Clerk assists the Clerk to manage the planning, development, direction and performance of the administration of the Legislative Council, and supports the Clerk in ensuring its effective operation within budgetary constraints.  The Deputy Clerk will also represent the Clerk in meetings, negotiations and conferences.

The successful applicant will be appointed by Her Excellency the Governor-in-Council on the recommendation of the President under the provisions of the Parliamentary Privilege Act 1898.
