Public Galleries
The sittings of both Houses of the Tasmanian Parliament are open to members of the public and visitors are welcome. Members of the public are encouraged to visit the public galleries whenever the House of Assembly or the Legislative Council is sitting.

Public Tours
Tours are available for members of the public every day at 10.00am and 2.00pm on non sitting days. For groups of more than 15 please ring and make a booking (see below) To check the schedule of sitting and non sitting times click below.

Guided School and Group Tours of Parliament House
Tours are conducted by the Parliamentary Attendants on House of Assembly ‘non-sitting' days for student groups and the general public. To check the ‘sitting days' click below..

Legislative Council Sitting Days. House of Assembly Sitting Days.

Tours focus on the history of the Parliament House site and the role of the Parliament. Information including a virtual tour which can enhance and provide background information prior to a visit is available at www.parliament.tas.gov.au .

Tours take approximately 1 hour and subject to a prior booking are conducted at 10.00am; 11.00am; 2.00pm and 3.00pm.

The preferred group size is twenty five or fewer and it can be arranged for two groups to be scheduled at the same time.

All tours are free of charge.

Important Note

  From 3 July 2008 until further notice refurbishment and renovations to the House of Assembly Chamber will restrict access to certain areas of the building including the House of Assembly Chamber

Tours will still be available but on a restricted basis

During the renovation period the House of Assembly Sittings will be conducted in Launceston on 19, 20 and 21 August and 26, 27 and 28 August 2008 and in Burnie on 23, 24 and 25 September 2008.

All school principals in the North and North West will be notified of the times when the House will be sitting and the process to follow to make a booking to visit at those times.
