David Llewellyn was born at St Mary's in Tasmania's North East. He is married to Julie, a school teacher formerly from St Helens. They have two sons. David has had a strong personal commitment to the people of Lyons since first standing as a Federal candidate in 1977. David has been a member of State Parliament since 1986 and a Cabinet Minister for 10 years. He has a vast knowledge of the people, issues and problems of the Lyons electorate. Those who know David recognise and value his honesty and integrity. David entered politics from a successful career in electronic engineering and possesses wide experience and qualifications in administration, industrial relations and politics.

David has had a strong personal commitment to the people of Lyons since first standing as a Federal candidate in 1977. A member of State Parliament for the past 20 years and a Cabinet Minister for ten, he has a vast knowledge of the people, issues and problems of the Lyons electorate. Those who know David recognise and value his honesty and integrity.

David currently has the following ministerial and other responsibilities:

~ Attorney-General.

~ Minister for Primary Industries ,and Water
~ Minister for Energy and Resources.
~ Minister for Planning.

In State Parliament David has held numerous positions, including:
* Deputy Premier
* Health and Human Services
* Primary Industry and Fisheries
* Inland Fisheries
* Environment, Land Management and Planning
* Water
* National Parks and Wildlife
* Police and Public Safety
* Government spokesperson on Treasury matters in the Lower house, and
* Member of the Budget Sub-Committee.

* Opposition Whip
* Member of the Public Accounts and Subordinate Legislation Standing Committees
* Member of the Dairy Industry and Central Highlands Select Committee
* Member of the Select Committee for Community Development
* Various Shadow Ministry positions
* Chairman of the Gene Technology Joint House Committee.

Since 1986, David has enthusiastically assisted thousands of people and organisations throughout the Lyons electorate. He maintains a tenacious, open, honest and practical approach in resolving the many issues he has to deal with.

David has achieved significant goals during his parliamentary career including:

The development of the Forest and Forest Industry Council and strategy in 1990, a strategy that has endured until present time.

The development of the present plan to sustainably harness water resources for irrigation and town water supplies, adding over 15,000 Megalitres of water to farmers storages.

The development of Labors 1996 - 1998 energy policy which strongly advocated the public ownership of the Hydro and promoted gas and wind energy, together with Basslink.

The development of a strong Tasmanian position against the importation of pests, disease and GMO's into the state. His stand on salmon imports and on maintaining a clean green quality, image has led to National changes in quarantine that recognises Tasmania's special case.

The significant reduction in property crime and the improvement in crime clean-up rates that once again sees Tasmania as the safest state in which to live.
