Forestry has always been an important issue in Tasmania and in recent times the debate has intensified. To enable my Legislative Council colleagues and myself to gain a better understanding of both sides of the issue, we felt it prudent that we undertake a tour of both the Styx Valley and various Gunns timber production operations. Most members joined the tour of the Styx Valley and several northern based members followed this up with a tour of several Gunns sites.
