Thursday 25 August 2005 GAMBLING AND CRIMINAL ACTIVITY - STATISTICAL DATA |
|
QUESTIONS UPON NOTICE Mr DEAN asked a question of the Leader of the Government in the Council - During Estimates 2004 the Commissioner of Police said that he would implement a system to capture statistical data relative to gambling and criminal activity - that is, crimes committed to support gambling. Can the Leader advise - (1) Has this program been implemented? (2) If not, why not? (3) If so, how many crimes associated with gambling have been committed in the past 12 months? Mr AIRD replied - An information system to capture statistical data regarding the nexus between gambling and criminal activity has not been implemented as yet. There have been information technology implications that have prevented implementation. The matter has been referred to the Information Management Board of the Department of Police and Public Safety for further refinement to enable the proposed capability to be incorporated into existing IT infrastructure. |
