When the Hobart City Council announced it was to
spend $5.5 million on Long Beach at Lower Sandy Bay,
Doug said:-
“Cornelian Bay – Why The Delay?”
"At a Hobart Council meeting on 18 December 2006, Council
agreed adopt the Draft Management Plan with a number of qualifications
as set out below. For complete details of the Draft Management
Plan please click on the Hobart City link here...."
Draft
Cornelian Bay Management Plan
Council
Resolution
“The Hobart City Council has advised that work on the
Management Plan is now underway, but actual commencement of ground
works are subject to funding and further deliberation by Council.
Replacement of Sand at Cornelian Bay was not a recommendation
of the Draft Management Plan.
It is hoped that in planning and prioritising for the future,
the Council will be able to give favourable consideration to
delivering on works associated with the Draft Management Plan
as soon as possible.
Compared with Sandy Bay, very little work has been done at Cornelian
Bay. Is this another
case of the Hobart City Council looking after “the big
end of town.”
“Cornelian Bay’s potential as a recreational area:
- Direct access by road, rail and bike track;
- Shallow safe bay;
- Home to pelicans and other sea birds (even
ducks);
- Close to Botanical Gardens and the City.”
“Years ago
sand was removed from the beach for Defence purposes and it should
BE REPLACED.
I will be watching Council progress regarding Cornelian Bay
with interest. Please tell me what you think?”
