Tasmanian Parliamentary Electorates, 1856 - 1980
Since their establishment in 1856, the number of Members in the respective Houses of the Tasmanian bicameral Parliament have been increased and decreased. This has occurred for various reasons such as population growth, the introduction of Federation and 'economy' measures. However, this page does not present arguments - historical or current - for these variations. It's aim is to simply provide a record of the changes that have occurred between 1856 - 1980. For these dates the information is more readily accessible: except for the Legislative Council changes made in 1901 and 1908, which are excluded because of compilation difficulties.Size of the Tasmanian Parliament since 1856
