The Crossbench is made up of minor parties and Independent Members who are neither in Government nor the official Opposition. Crossbench Members sit between the Government and the Opposition in the House of Assembly and throughout the Chamber in the Legislative Council. Crossbench Members work in the Parliament by representing their communities, scrutinising (closely checking) the work of Government and debating and voting on new laws for Tasmania. Crossbench Members can propose new laws and when they do it is known as a Private Member's Bill.
