Shadow Ministers are members of the Opposition who scrutinise – closely examine – the work of the Government in a particular area. They are chosen by the Leader of the Opposition and act as their party spokesperson in the area they are allocated. As the party expert in their area, they may propose alternative ideas for improving government services. Shadow Ministers can be Members of the House of Assembly or the Legislative Council. Together the Leader of the Opposition and the Shadow Ministers are called Shadow Cabinet.
