The House of Assembly Education Office is mindful that the Australian Civics and Citizenship Curriculum covers many outcomes across a wide span of year levels. In addition, teachers face a huge range of student diversity within each of their classes. Therefore, while education resources are targeted to different year levels they could be easily modified for individual student needs.

Coding of HAEO Resources

When planning for a class of diverse learners, teachers should apply their professional judgement to match House of Assembly Education Office resources with student needs. However, the following key may be a useful starting point when planning units of work:

CodeTerm Core Recommendation Possible adjustments
LS Legal Studies Year 11-12 Highly capable secondary students
S Secondary Year 7-10 Beginning Legal Studies students or highly capable primary students
P Primary Year 3-6 Secondary students requiring additional learning support
A Adjusted Students requiring some level of modification to their education program Suitable for students with a personalised or individual learning plan
E Extension Students requiring enrichment or challenges in their education program Suitable for students with a particular interest in Civics and Citizenship

Please note: The coding of education resources is intended to be discreet, allowing teachers to give individual students resources that are different from their peers, whilst protecting the student’s sense of self-worth.
